| Key witness | Almiro Barauna, civilian photographer aboard a Brazilian Navy vessel |
| Status | Disputed |
Civilian photographer Almiro Barauna, aboard a Brazilian Navy oceanographic expedition, captured a series of photographs of a Saturn-shaped object over the island, witnessed simultaneously by numerous naval crew members including the ship’s captain.
Assessment
The Brazilian Navy publicly released the photographs and stated it could not identify the object, an unusually direct acknowledgment for a military body of the era; Barauna, however, had a documented prior involvement in an earlier photographic hoax, which has led some researchers to treat the case with caution despite the multiple corroborating military witnesses.
