The Department of Defense officially released the three Navy infrared videos — previously leaked to and published by the To The Stars Academy and The New York Times in 2017–2018 — confirming they were authentic U.S. military recordings and had been correctly referred to publicly as showing “unidentified aerial phenomena.”

Assessment

The Department of Defense stated the release was intended to clear up any misconceptions about the video’s authenticity, but explicitly did not characterize the nature of the objects shown, which include the Gimbal Video and GoFast Video. The release is widely regarded as a pivotal moment that helped move the UAP issue into mainstream political and media discussion in the following years.
