PURSUE Release 01 (May 8, 2026)

Overview of the first tranche of UAP records released by the Department of War under PURSUE
⚠ Note on validity: PURSUE files are cases the government calls unresolved: it could not reach a definitive conclusion, often because of limited data. “Unresolved” does not mean “anomalous,” and historical records are included for context whether or not they were resolved at the time.

Release 01 launched PURSUE on May 8, 2026, about three months after the February presidential directive. At 158 files it is the largest release. It mixes National Archives historical files (FBI, Army Air Forces, Navy, State Department, NASA) with modern military mission reports and infrared videos from the Middle East, the Mediterranean and the Pacific, and several new domestic cases investigated by the FBI.[1]

Overall assessment

What’s new. The headline items were new: a senior intelligence official’s account of chasing “super-hot” orbs at a western test installation in late 2025, with 32 images; an FBI composite of a bronze object at a test site in September 2023; the first summary of the October 2023 Western U.S. Event; and dozens of 2016–2025 military reports and videos.

What isn’t. Much of the historical material, including the FBI’s 62-HQ-83894 file, the Senator Russell report, Apollo and Gemini transcripts, and the COMETA report, had been public for years; PURSUE adds less-redacted or more complete copies.

Skeptical context. Many modern reports include clues pointing to balloons, birds, drones or optical effects, and none includes measured range or speed. The government lists them as unresolved rather than anomalous.
