The National Aeronautics and Space Council (NASC) was created by the 1958 law that founded NASA, to advise the President on space policy and coordinate civilian and military space programs. It was chaired by the Vice President from 1961 and abolished in 1973; a successor National Space Council was created in 1989.[1]
UFO-related records
PURSUE released a July 1963 NASC memo discussing “the space alien race question,” covering how the government might respond if alien intelligence were discovered, and a November 1963 intelligence report from the files of executive secretary Edward C. Welsh about an alleged crashed “metal sphere” in Bahia, Brazil, which the State Department found to be a hoax.[2]
