| Key witness | Deputy Val Johnson |
| Status | Unexplained |
Sheriff’s deputy Val Johnson radioed dispatch that he was about to intercept a bright light on a rural road, then was found disoriented with his patrol car damaged — a cracked windshield, bent antenna, and a stopped watch and dashboard clock, both reading exactly the same time roughly 14 minutes behind actual time.
Assessment
An insurance-company investigation examined the vehicle damage without reaching a conventional explanation for the windshield cracking pattern, which appeared to originate from an impact from above rather than a typical road collision; Johnson maintained his account consistently, and the case remains one of the better-documented physical-evidence vehicle-interference reports.
