The Spanish Air Force investigated a substantial body of UFO reports during the 1990s and, unusually among European military UFO programs, subsequently declassified the large majority of its historical case files for public release.
Declassification
Spain’s declassification effort, carried out in stages through the 1990s and early 2000s, released several thousand pages of case documentation, making Spanish military UFO records among the most publicly accessible in Europe, alongside France’s GEIPAN archive.
Assessment
Researchers including Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos have used the released Spanish files extensively in comparative, skeptical case-catalog research, noting the large majority ultimately received conventional explanations once properly investigated.
