| Status | Mainstream credibility |
Christopher Mellon served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence during the Clinton and Bush administrations and later became one of the most credentialed public advocates for taking military UAP reports seriously.
Advocacy and role
Mellon has said he helped provide the Gimbal Video and other Navy footage to journalists and to To The Stars Academy associates around 2017, contributing to the events described in the New York Times Pentagon UFO Story. He has since testified before Congress and written extensively arguing that UAP represent a legitimate national-security and scientific question deserving of rigorous, non-sensationalized study.
Assessment
Mellon is widely regarded, including by mainstream journalists, as a credible and cautious voice in the UAP discussion given his decades of prior national-security credentials, distinguishing his advocacy from more sensational figures in the space.
