A 16-member independent study team commissioned by NASA released its final report, concluding that the overwhelming majority of UAP reports likely have prosaic explanations attributable to insufficient data quality, and recommending NASA use its civilian scientific credibility and remote-sensing expertise to improve future data collection.
Assessment
The team explicitly stated it found no evidence UAP have an extraterrestrial origin, while also criticizing the stigma historically associated with reporting sightings, which it identified as a barrier to gathering better data. NASA subsequently appointed its first director of UAP research following the report’s recommendations.
