Chinese aviation authorities diverted or delayed numerous flights and briefly closed Hangzhou’s airport after air traffic controllers and pilots reported an unidentified object in the airport’s approach path, an unusually significant operational response by international standards.
Assessment
Chinese state media reported at the time that the object was suspected to be linked to a nearby rocket test or classified military exercise, though no official identification was ever publicly confirmed. The case is frequently cited as one of the few instances where a UFO report caused a documented, large-scale disruption to commercial aviation.
