Contractor Ed Walters produced a lengthy series of photographs depicting a distinctive saucer-shaped craft over his neighborhood, sparking a prolonged local and national media sensation and a wave of imitator reports from other Gulf Breeze residents.
Assessment
After Walters sold his house, the new owners found a model closely matching the object in his photographs hidden in the attic; combined with inconsistencies identified in his photographic technique by independent analysts, the case is now regarded by the large majority of UFO researchers, including many otherwise sympathetic to the field, as an elaborate hoax.
