| Location | Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, U.S. |
| Type | Military incident |
| Investigation | |
| Key witness | Robert Salas, USAF officer |
| Status | Unexplained / Disputed |
Air Force officers on duty at Malmstrom’s missile launch control facilities reported multiple Minuteman ICBMs going into an unexplained “no-go” (disabled) status within minutes of security guards reporting a glowing red-orange object hovering over the facility’s front gate.
Assessment
Retired officer Robert Salas, who was on duty that day, has campaigned for decades for the government to release related records, and Boeing engineering documentation reportedly investigated the missile malfunctions without reaching a definitive technical cause; the Air Force has stated it has no records connecting the missile failures to any UFO sighting, a denial Salas and other witnesses dispute given their firsthand recollection of the timing.
