SEFAA is Chile’s official government committee for studying anomalous aerial phenomena reports, operating under the country’s civil aviation authority (DGAC) since 1997, one of relatively few government UFO bodies worldwide still actively investigating and publishing findings.
Role
SEFAA’s aviation-safety-oriented placement gives it access to pilot and air-traffic-control reports directly, and the committee has investigated numerous cases involving commercial and military aviation personnel, including the widely cited 2014 Chilean Navy infrared video of an unidentified object.
Reputation
SEFAA is generally regarded by international researchers as a credible, methodologically careful body, comparable in spirit to France’s GEIPAN, publishing case classifications rather than sensationalized conclusions.
