| Type | Sighting wave |
| Status | Disputed |
Thousands of residents across the Hudson Valley region reported large, silent, boomerang- or V-shaped formations of lights on numerous occasions over several years, one of the largest sustained sighting waves in U.S. history by total witness count.
Assessment
Investigative journalist Philip Imbrogno and physicist J. Allen Hynek’s associates researched the wave extensively; skeptics, including some later researchers, have proposed the formations were organized nighttime flights of small private aircraft or ultralights flying in loose formation with lights on, an explanation Imbrogno and many witnesses dispute given the reported size and complete silence of the objects.
