Bob Lazar publicly claimed, in interviews with journalist George Knapp, to have worked on reverse-engineering extraterrestrial spacecraft powered by a stable, superheavy “element 115” at a secret facility near Area 51, launching the modern Area 51 phenomenon into mainstream popular culture.
Assessment
Investigators were unable to verify Lazar’s claimed academic credentials or his stated employment history, and element 115 (moscovium), first synthesized in 2003, does not match the stable, room-temperature material Lazar described; the claims remain unverified and are regarded by most researchers as unsubstantiated.
