The U.S. Navy confirmed as genuine a set of photographs and videos, taken by personnel aboard USS Russell and other ships during a multi-day period in July 2019, showing pyramid- or triangular-shaped objects with lights hovering and moving near the vessels, first published publicly in 2021.
Assessment
The Navy has confirmed the imagery’s authenticity but has not identified the objects, and officials have separately noted that some contemporaneous reports of “swarms” of drones near Navy ships off California in 2019 were being examined by the same investigative bodies. AARO has since folded the case into its broader historical review of naval UAP encounters.
