Larry W. Bryant was a Washington, D.C.-area UFO researcher and long-time director of the Washington office of Citizens Against UFO Secrecy (CAUS), a group formed in the late 1970s to use the Freedom of Information Act and lawsuits to pry UFO records from federal agencies.[1]
PURSUE Release 04 included a 1974 exchange in which Bryant asked the FBI about an alleged April 8, 1954 sighting of an occupied UFO. The FBI replied that it had no record of the event and that it did not collect information on UFO sightings.[2]
Assessment
Bryant’s FOIA requests and court actions, along with those of other CAUS members, helped bring CIA, NSA and military UFO documents into the public domain in the late 1970s and 1980s. The FBI’s 1974 answer is consistent with the Bureau’s policy since the late 1940s of forwarding UFO reports to the Air Force.
