Jaime Maussan (born 1946) is a Mexican journalist and the country’s most prominent ufologist, known for decades of television coverage of purported UFO evidence and, most notably, for presenting disputed mummified “non-human” specimens to the Mexican Congress in September 2023.[1]

Career

Maussan began covering UFO reports as a television journalist in the 1980s and has since produced and hosted numerous programs and public events centered on UAP claims in Mexico and Latin America, building a large audience and a reputation as the region’s leading media figure on the subject.[2]

Record of disputed claims

Several of Maussan’s highest-profile claims have subsequently been discredited, including a 2015 case in which he presented what he described as an alien photograph that was later identified by researchers as a mislabeled doll, and the broader “Nazca mummies” series beginning in 2017, culminating in the 2023 congressional presentation, which Peruvian authorities determined were fabricated from human and animal remains.[3] This pattern has led mainstream Mexican and international press to describe Maussan as having a documented history of promoting since-debunked material, a characterization frequently cited by outlets covering his subsequent claims.

Assessment

Maussan retains a substantial following, particularly in Latin America, and continues to present new claims; independent scientists and journalists who have examined his most prominent physical claims have, without exception to date, found them unsubstantiated or fabricated, and his work is treated with considerable caution by the broader UAP research community.
