Budd Hopkins was an American artist and self-taught UFO researcher whose 1981 book helped establish hypnosis-based investigation as a common methodology for studying alleged alien abduction cases, an approach later continued by researchers including David Jacobs.
Assessment
Hopkins’s hypnotic-regression methodology has been strongly criticized by mainstream psychologists as prone to producing confabulated memories rather than accurate recollection, a criticism that applies broadly to the abduction-research tradition he helped found.
