Charles Halt is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel who, as deputy base commander at RAF Bentwaters, personally led a night patrol investigating unusual lights in Rendlesham Forest in December 1980, subsequently authoring the contemporaneous memorandum — later declassified and widely known as the “Halt Memo” — that remains one of the most important primary documents in the Rendlesham Forest incident.
Assessment
Halt’s rank, his contemporaneous written documentation, and an audio recording he made during the patrol combine to make him one of the most credible and thoroughly corroborated military witnesses in UFO history, though the phenomena he described remain officially unexplained by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
