Edward Condon was a prominent American physicist who directed the University of Colorado UFO Project (Condon Committee), the U.S. Air Force-commissioned academic study whose 1968 conclusions that UFOs did not merit further scientific study led directly to the closure of Project Blue Book the following year.
Assessment
Condon’s conclusions were later criticized by some committee members and outside reviewers, including J. Allen Hynek, as not fully reflecting the study’s own case-level findings, several of which had been individually classified as unexplained even as the summary report recommended against further study.
