| Location | Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona, U.S. |
| Type | Abduction |
| Investigation | |
| Key witness | Travis Walton; six logging-crew co-workers |
| Status | Disputed |
Logger Travis Walton reportedly vanished for five days after his crew witnessed him struck by a beam of light from a hovering craft; he reappeared disoriented at a gas station miles away, with an account of examination aboard a craft by humanoid beings.
Assessment
All six of Walton’s crewmates passed polygraph examinations regarding witnessing his disappearance, a striking level of corroboration; Walton’s own polygraph results were more mixed across different examiners, and skeptics have noted the crew had a work-related financial incentive that might explain a coordinated story. The case remains one of the most publicly recognized and disputed American abduction claims.
