| Location | Socorro, New Mexico, U.S. |
| Type | Landing / Close encounter |
| Investigation | |
| Key witness | Sgt. Lonnie Zamora, Socorro police |
| Status | Unexplained |
Police officer Lonnie Zamora, responding to what he believed was an exploding vehicle, instead reported a white, egg-shaped object resting on legs in a gully with two small humanoid figures nearby; the object departed in a burst of flame and noise, leaving landing-gear impressions and burned brush at the site that were photographed and measured shortly afterward.
Assessment
Zamora was regarded by fellow officers and Air Force investigator J. Allen Hynek as an exceptionally credible, unimaginative witness with physical trace evidence to corroborate his account, making Socorro one of the very small number of cases Project Blue Book itself classified as unexplained after full investigation. No hoax or conventional aircraft explanation has been substantiated.
