Numerous residents of Lubbock, including several Texas Technological College professors, reported a recurring V-shaped formation of blue-white lights crossing the sky at high speed on multiple nights; a local student photographed the formation, producing some of the most widely reproduced UFO images of the era.
Assessment
The Air Force’s official explanation attributed the lights to a flock of plovers or similar birds reflecting the glow of newly installed municipal streetlights from their undersides, an explanation the professor-witnesses who filed the original report found unconvincing given the lights’ reported speed and formation discipline. The case remains disputed rather than fully resolved.
